You will learn the basics of writing comedy sketches. This class is an introductory approach to writing comedy. In this course you will learn how to write different genres and styles of sketch in a writer’s room setting, and assemble/perform a sketch show for your friends and family. Students should be prepared to write/rehearse outside of class. Students can bring pre-written sketches to class.

Bill Chott is the founder of The Improv Trick school of comedy and known for his writing/performing on such legendary programs as The Dana Carvey Show and Saturday Night Live. He’s an alumnus of Chicago’s Improv Olympic, Second City, and Hollywood’s own The Dickie Bell Twist Dance Party, where he first worked with co-instructor Eric Von Hoffman. Bill is sometimes called “The Mayor of Sketch Comedy.”
Eric Von Hoffman is known for his writing/performing on such also-legendary programs as Mr. Show with Bob & David, W/Bob and David, and the film Girlfriend’s Day. He is the co-author of the McSweeney’s how-to humor bible, Comedy By The Numbers. He’s an alumnus of Chicago’s Comedy Workshop class w/ Norm Holly, The Annoyance Theatre, and The Stinky Onion Gang. He has taught sketch writing at The Improv Trick and UCB Hollywood.
