Improv's earliest roots include The Compass Theater which flourished briefly in St. Louis before returning to Chicago where it morphed into The Second City. Bill Chott studied at Second City and returned to his home town to start St. Louis's first improv school The Improv Trick. Although the Improv Trick is now based in Los Angeles and offers classes both nationally and internationally, St. Louis now boasts a very active improv scene which includes the Compass Improv Festival.
